Auto DJ tab: Database Shuffle

In this Auto DJ tab page, basic settings are done for the Database Shuffle.

The Database Shuffle should be configured so the AlbumPlayer knows where to pick albums or tracks from. Basically this is done by choosing a mode and a collection and additionally a filter to be used on the selected collection The filter settings are added in Auto DJ tab: Database Shuffle Filter.

Adding Albums/Tracks (when new tracks are required in playlist)

There are three modes of adding albums or tracks

  • Track Shuffle.
  • Album Shuffle.
  • Album Shuffle, add tracks of an album in random order.

The AlbumPlayer maintains an internal list of albums/tracks from which it picks the albums or tracks. This internal list is built based on the specified criteria and has a different structure in case of Track Shuffle or Album Shuffle.

Track Shuffle
In this mode all resulting tracks are just in one sequential list totally unrelated to the album. Each time a new track is required a track is randomly picked from this track list. In Track Shuffle each track has an equal change to be added to a playlist.

Album Shuffle
In this mode all resulting tracks are organized by album. Internally a list of albums is maintained. Each time a new track is required the AlbumPlayer randomly picks an album and add all tracks of that album. In Album Shuffle each album does have an equal change to be added to a playlist but a track does not have an equal change. So if you have two albums of two different artists, one containing 15 tracks the other containing 45 tracks (3 CD album), in Album Shuffle you still will hear as much music from one artist as the other. In Track Shuffle you would here three times more music of the artist having 45 tracks.

Album Shuffle, add tracks of an album in random order
This mode is the same as Album Shuffle, but instead tracks from the album are added in random order.

Album Shuffle / Sequentially

In this section it is defined how and how many tracks should be added for each album in case Album Shuffle is selected.

Max number of tracks to add per album each time
Specify here the maximum number of tracks of an album the should be added at the moment an album is picked in Album Shuffle mode. When adding sequentially, it means that when a maximum of three is specified the first three tracks of an album are added, and later the next three tracks. In case of adding randomly, three tracks are picked randomly from the album.

Add all tracks of the album at once
Set this option if you want all album tracks to be added when a random album is picked in Album Shuffle mode.

Collections to be used

After the mode is selected, then a collection to pick albums/tracks from, should be chosen. Note that this is the basic collection to pick from, but a filter can be applied on this collection to limit the number of albums.

All albums
With this option the entire database is used as a base.

Actually shown collection at the moment new track/album is added to playlist
When this option is chosen, it always picks from albums actually shown. This means that the collection to choose from is updated every time when browsing to a next page in the album grid.

One or more custom collections
With this option you choose one or more custom collections as a base. Use the Edit button to choose the custom collections from a list. Use the clear button to clear all selections at once.
